Pirates run to three first place finishes at the Terrapin Invitational

Landover, Md.  – Hampton senior Andrew Peresta and junior Terrance Burton captured first place in their signature events then came back to close out the day by leading the Pirates’ 4x400 meter relay team to victory at the Terrapin Invitational Saturday afternoon at the Prince George’s Sports & Learning Complex in Landover, Maryland.

Running on the same track that will be the site of the upcoming MEAC Championships (Feb. 16-17), Peresta led a group of four Hampton athletes in the finals of the 60-meter hurdles.  After posting an 8.18 in the preliminaries he bettered that with an 8.09 in the finals, while fellow Pirates Damon Bailey (8.29), Barry Bostick (8.43) and Dewayne Chandler finished seventh, ninth and 10th respectively.

In the 400-meter dash the Pirates brought home first and second place as both Burton and Peresta registered times under 50 seconds in Heat 1.  Burton led the pack by turning in a season-best 49.17, while Peresta was just a step behind at 49.37.

Senior sprinter John Bailey accounted for the Pirates’ other top three finish on the day by running a 6.91 in the 60-meter dash to place third.

Hampton’s 4x400 meter relay team comprised of Peresta, Burton, Anthony Easter and John Bailey ran away from the field, finishing nearly two seconds ahead of second place Maryland with a time of 3:17.78
