WASHINGTON (August 6, 2020) – Tianna Scott was a four-year member (1992-96) of the Howard University women’s basketball team where she made the league’s All-Rookie Team in her freshman campaign, competing in all 27 contests under HU and Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Hall of Famer head coach Sanya Tyler.

In her four years, the squad had three consecutive winning seasons (1993-96), including 40 victories in conference play. In her senior campaign, she went on to co-captain the 1996 MEAC Championship team that won the tournament and earned a berth into the NCAA Tournament. That same season, Scott served as Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) President.

After graduating from Howard’s School of Communications, Scott continued her work in the athletics department while pursuing her master's degree. In 2001, she earned her second degree and started her professional career at Old Dominion University where she served as a university instructor and academic advisor for student-athletes. During this time, Scott also took on the role of president of the Coalition of Black Faculty and Administrators.

She continued her career in athletics at nearby Hampton University, becoming the Assistant Director of Athletics and Senior Women’s Administrator.

Over the course of her career, Scott recalls the pleasure of working with some of the brightest and exceptional student-athletes from all over the world. A home for some of her former student-athletes include the MLB, Team USA, NBA, MLS and NFL.

Aside from the joy of watching her athletes play professionally, Scott attributes her success and happiness in her career to her Bison family, specifically her coaches, Mrs. Sharon Fletcher and Ms. Deborah Johnson (Howard Interim Faculty Athletic Representative). Their continued support inspired her career path and led to her master’s degree, all of which has had a profound impact on her life.

After taking some time off to enjoy being a mom, Scott returned to Seattle where she is operating a local community center that is serving as an emergency homeless shelter during the pandemic.

Post COVID-19, she plans to continue to serve as a youth mentor while providing a safe place for youth and seniors, giving opportunities for quality recreation programs for underserved populations, and representing the community’s needs where she grew up.
