NCCU Student-Athlete of the Month: Gabriel Cucalon
DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University senior Gabriel Cucalon has been named the NCCU Student-Athlete of the Month for June 2019 in recognition of his outstanding performance on the courtand in the classroom.
Cucalon was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Tennis Player of the Year and NCCU Male Student-Athlete of the Year alongside Corey Joyce to cap off astellar collegiate career forthe Eagles.
In his senior season, Cucalon posted a team-best 11-4 singles record. He played atop NCCU’s lineup all season and won nine consecutive matches in one stretch. Cucalon wasa perfect 6-0 against league opposition.
Cucalon started off his senior season by winning the A Flight of the HBCU National Championships for a second time in the fall.
The four-time NCCU men’s tennis team MVP and three-time All-MEAC selection set a new NCAA Division I era program record for career singles wins with 46 wins.
Cucalon has been an ITA Scholar-Athlete and MEAC All-Academic selection throughout his playing career for the Eagles.
The resident of Guayaquil, Ecuador, graduated from NCCU in May with a Bachelor of Arts degree in marketing. Cucalon completed his undergraduate work with a 3.568 cumulative grade point average (GPA). He next plans to work on an MBA at NCCU and serve as a graduate assistant coach for the Eagles.

|Hawks Athletics Announce 2019 Themed Football
MURFREESBORO, N.C. - The Chowan University Department of Athletics is excited to announce its themed games for the 2019 home football season. The Hawks will host four home games this season, the first being Saturday, September 14th when Alderson Broaddus comes to town for a 1:00pm kick off.

CU ACADEMIC CHAMPIONS DAY / COMMUNITY & CLUB DAY
The Athletic Department will recognize two groups this Saturday. First, all student-athletes with a 3.0 or higher cumulative grade point average. Second, the department will recognize clubs and organizations on campus. Campus advisors and/or club officers will be recognized in between quarters of the game. The department will host our annual community function during the contest with a tailgate, face painting, inflatables and more.

Please join the CU community for Military & First Responders Appreciation Day where all retired and active members with a Valid ID will receive free admission to the game. We will also recognize those military and first responders in attendance at halftime of the game.

HOMECOMING & I'M A HAWK DAY
At halftime of the game the University will recognize the 2019 Distinguished Alumni class followed by the 2019 CU Homecoming Court and crowning of the 2019 CU Homecoming King and Queen. The athletic department is asking that all CU fans wear CU Blue to support the Hawks on game day and help us BLUE OUT the stands! There will be a video made this game where fans can participate in a "I'M A HAWK" production.

HALL OF FAME GAME & CU TEAM DAY
The CU Athletics Department will recognize the 2019 CU Athletics Jim Garrison Hall of Fame class at halftime of the game. In between quarters, all athletic teams will be recognized and are asked to dress in team issued gear.

Returning to WSNC 90.5 FM
Starting on Sept. 5, Rams football, basketball will be broadcast live on WSSU-based station.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (8/8/19) – Winston-Salem State Rams football, and men’s and women’s basketball will have a new broadcast home starting this fall, WSNC 90.5 FM, the university’s radio station.
“We are excited about our games being broadcast live on our own WSNC 90.5 FM,” saint WSSU Interim Director of Athletics George Knox said. “This new partnership will allow us to reach an even wider audience through the radio and thelive stream on WSNC’s website.”
At least eight Rams football games, including all home games and two away games, will be broadcast on WSNC starting with the season opener at UNC-Pembroke on Sept. 5.
"One of my main priorities since arriving at WSNC has been growing our audience to allow the station to be a major community outreach source for Winston-Salem State University,” said Brian Anthony, WSNC general manager. “I'm very pleased that we’re in a position to return WSSU football and basketball, after a 10-year absence, to the airwaves of the campus radio station.”
As part of the partnership, select Rams’ basketball games will be broadcast on the radio for the first time since 2009.
For the seventh year in a row, Ken Winfrey will return as the play-by-play announcer for the Rams football and basketball games.
Since 2013, Rams football has been broadcast on WTOB 96.3 FM.
“It goes without saying, but we are very appreciative to WTOB for making it possible for Rams fans to continue hearing both football and basketball games since 2013," Knox said.
