CIAA Announces Regular Season Bowling Honors

Charlotte, NC – The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA), with its Bowling Coaches Association, announces the 2018 CIAA Bowling regular season awards including Players and Coach of the Year, All-Conference honorees, and the Highest Team GPA award.
The 2018 All-Conference Bowling Team is highlighted by the Player and Rookie of the Year. A sophomore from Fayetteville State University, Savannah Starling, has earned 2018 CIAA Player of the Year honors. Starling participated in 37 CIAA bowling contests this year for a total pin count of 6,738, earning the highest average within the conference at 182.11 pins per match.
Amaree Durfee of Virginia Union University ranks atop her freshman peers to earn CIAA Rookie of the Year. In 40 CIAA bowling contests, she recorded an average 168.83 pins per game for a total of 6,753 pins dropped on the season. Durfee’s performance on the season ranks her No. 7 among all CIAA bowling student-athletes.
Starling and Durfee are joined on the 2018 CIAA Bowling First Team by Brittany Worthy (FSU), Diamond Carter (BSU), Ariel Haith (VSU), Devondra Bazemore (FSU), Paige Brayboy (FSU), Briana Williams (VSU), Veronica Santiago-Colon (FSU), and Jana’ Boyd (ECSU).
Fayetteville State Head Coach Bobby Henderson led his Lady Broncos to a 46-1 CIAA and 49-1 overall record while earning his 1,000th career victory during the 2017-18 season. Henderson and his team claimed the University’s 17th CIAA Southern Division title.  The Lady Panthers of Virginia Union University secured the 2018 CIAA Bowling Highest GPA Award. Collectively, the team recorded a 3.5 grade point average, proving their dedication to academics in addition to their athletic efforts
 
Durfee Named CIAA Bowling Rookie of the Year

Virginia Union University's Amaree Durfee has been named the CIAA Bowling Rookie of the Year while the team captured the award for the Highest Team GPA, the CIAA announced on Friday, March 23.

Durfee, a freshman from Sacramento, Cal., ranks atop her freshman peers to earn CIAA Rookie of the Year. In 40 CIAA bowling contests, she recorded an average 168.83 pins per game for a total of 6,753 pins dropped on the season. Durfee's performance on the season ranks her No. 7 among all CIAA bowling student-athletes.  

Durfee was also named to the All-CIAA Team for her performance this past season. As a team, the Lady Panthers secured the 2018 CIAA Bowling Highest GPA Award. Collectively, the team recorded a 3.5 grade point average, proving their dedication to academics in addition to their athletic efforts.  The CIAA Bowling Championship is March 23-24 in Virginia Beach, Va.
