Union University's Vicki Collier scored a team-high 17 points and
grabbed nine rebounds to lead the Lady Panthers to a 67-59 win over
Chowan University on Saturday, January 28, in Barco-Stevens Hall in
Richmond, Va.VUU's freshman Danielle Ferguson scored 14 points while fellow freshman Melyse Brown added 13 points in the win.
Virginia Union's Dashia Chandler scored 12 points for the Lady Panthers.
The win marked the first victory for VUU over Chowan since January 16, 2007.
Chowan was led by Ransheeda Jennings' 25 points and Talaya Lynch's eight rebounds.
The win raised VUU's record to 7-10 overall and 4-5 in the CIAA. The Lady Panthers are currently in first place in the CIAA's Northern Division.
Chowan fell to 8-12 overall and 3-7 in CIAA play.
VUU now travels to Lincoln University, Pa., to face Lincoln (Pa.) on Monday, January 30, at 5:30 p.m.
