Vikings Go 0-2 at USC-Aiken Classic; Blake Price Named to All-Classic Team

AIKEN, SC-The Elizabeth City State University Vikings closed out first half of the 2011-2012 season with a 67-61 loss to Lenoir-Rhyne University Saturday afternoon at the USC-Aiken Convocation Center.

Quintin Spady lead all scorers with 17, tying his career high in points and his single game best with five three pointers. Freshman guard Glenn Patterson posted a season high with 14 points off the bench.

The 61 point output versus the Bears represents a season low ECSU. The Vikings also had a season low with 11 turnovers however eight came in the first stanza leading to 13 points for Lenoir-Rhyne.

The Vikings started the game slow and trailed by as many as 15 in the first half, 29-14, at the 4:38 mark. The Bears held a 67-61 advantage at halftime.

In the second half the Vikings, courtesy of the sharp shooting of Quintin Spady and Glenn Patterson, whittled into the Bears’ lead. A Patterson jumper with 3:05 left in the game pulled the Vikings within a point. LR answered with a score and a free throw before Paul Goldsmith hit two shots from the line to make the score 63-61 with 1:50 to go.

ECSU had a chance to cut the lead to two points after the Bears next possession came up empty. However a missed jumper by Blake Price and quick outlet led to a fast break layup by AJ McKenzie which pushed the lead back to four. RJ McClure sealed the game with two free throws for the final point spread.

The Bears (4-5) enjoyed a 21-25 advantage from the charity stripe to just 4-8 shooting for the Vikings.
