ORANGEBURG, SC – South Carolina State’s 2011 soccer recruiting class has been rated one of the top in the nation. TopDrawerSoccer.com lists the Lady Bulldog signees as the third-best class in the nation, behind only UCLA and Colorado. Boston College rounded out the top four.
Coach Glad Bugariu’s 2011 class is made up of just three signees – 5-3 forward Breia Pierce (Dixie Dragons Club) of Toronto, 5-3 midfielder Rachel Pearce (Shelford Ladies FC) of Cambridge, England and 5-8 midfielder Dominique Brown (Ohio Elite FC) of Westerville, Ohio.
Topdrawersoccer.com, an online magazine dedicated to men’s and women’s soccer, called the SC State signees “a killer signing class,” noting: The Bulldogs have gone international to pull in a pair of attackers. Pierce is a striker for Toronto touted for her athleticism while Pearce comes via England where she made a name as a capable midfielder. Brown is another midfielder with the ability to impact a game.  “We are pleased to be recognized by Top Drawer Soccer,” Bugariu said. “I feel Rachel, Breia and Dominique will make an immediate impact on our program.”
SC State will be looking to improve on last season’s 13-6-1 record, the best in school history. Bugariu’s team also captured the East Division of the Great West Soccer Conference with a perfect 6-0 record and made it to the semifinals of the league’s postseason tournament.
