Lady Rams Softball Breaks Out for 10-0 Win Over Virginia State to
Advance in CIAA Championships Trevin Goodwin 04/21/11 WSSU notches 12 hits to advance to semifinal round PETERSBURG, VA – The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (27-11) kept their strong play going when the team took a dominating 10-0 win over the host Virginia State Lady Trojans to advance to the semifinal round of the 2011 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Softball Championship Tournament. The Lady Rams had an offensive explosion in the game as the team scored 10 unanswered runs on 12 hits to take the victory. WSSU freshman outfielder Tanaya Pettus led the way for the Lady Rams with three RBI on a pair of hits. Senior outfielder Candace Spinks added a pair of runs scored on two hits as well. Sophomore pitcher Brittany Lane took the pitching win, going all five innings with no hits and no runs allowed with 12 strikeouts. For the game, she allowed just one VSU batter on base with a walk. With the win, the Lady Rams will return to action tomorrow when they advance in the winner’s bracket to take on the Chowan Lady Hawks. |
