CIAA Spring Championships Begin Today David Hodge 04/20/11 HAMPTON, VA – The CIAA Spring Championship schedules and brackets have been released and five Chowan University athletic teams will make the trip to Petersburg, VA. Chowan softball will be the #1 seed from the North Division in the tournament after posting an 11-1 record in the North. The Hawks will take on the #4 seed from the South Division, Johnson C. Smith University (7-10 CIAA). The teams will meet at 12:00 noon on Thursday, April 21st at the Petersburg Sportsplex. The Chowan baseball team also earned the #1 seed in the tournament, following a 25-3 CIAA record this season. They will do battle with the Trojans of Virginia State University (13-15 CIAA), the #4 seed, on Thursday at 1:00pm. All games will be held at the VSU Sports Complex. The Men's and Women's Tennis seedings have not been released yet, due to regular season matches still to be played. The CU men currently sit at 8-5 in the CIAA, which places them in fourth place. The Hawk women own an 8-2 CIAA North record (12-3 in CIAA). The official rankings and brackets will be released at a later time. The Chowan men's golf team will get the CIAA Tournament underway today when they play the first of two championship rounds at the Cardinal Golf Club in Fort Lee, VA.
