Benedict and Lane Sweep Final SIAC Softball Weekly Honors of the Season

Atlanta, GA—Benedict third baseman Cherae Rice and sophomore Lakeeya Ramsey have been named SIAC Softball East Division Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week respectively. Lane catcher Jannze Gonzalez has been named SIAC West Division Player of the Week while teammate Leslie Ballard has been named SIAC West Division Pitcher of the Week.
Rice, a native of Columbia, SC, had 10 hits, including a home run, a triple, and four doubles, with a .714 batting average and a 1.357 slugging percentage. The 5-8 senior drove in 10 runs and scored 13 runs. She also had an on-base percentage of .772 and stole one base. Defensively, Rice had a .880 fielding percentage to help lead the Lady Tigers to a 5-1 record for the week with victories against Johnson C. Smith, Paine, and Fort Valley State.
Ramsey pitched five complete games, finishing the week a 4-1 record and a save. The Summerville, GA native also threw 12 strikeouts for the Lady Tigers.
Gonzalez, a native of Clarksville, TN, went 12-for-19, including three home runs and two doubles, with a .639 batting average and a 1.210 slugging percentage. The 5-5 freshman drove in 13 runs while also scoring 11 runs and stealing one base. She helped the Lady Dragons to three wins last against Rust College, twice, and Miles College.
Ballard pitched 21.1 total innings, including two complete games and a shutout, and threw 25 strikeouts to set a new school record with 112 strikeouts in a season. The Nashville, TN native finished with a record of 3-1 for the week with a 2.65 ERA.
