Lady Rams Hold Fayetteville State Scoreless for 4-0 Win Trevin Goodwin 04/17/11 Cato hits clutch triple to lead WSSU to win WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (24-11, 14-1 CIAA) put on a defensive show, Sunday when the team notched a 4-0 win over the Fayetteville State Lady Broncos (18-26, 11-5 CIAA). In a game that was a defensive battle with both teams making big plays, the Lady Rams came out on top after a breakout fourth inning that put the game away. The Lady Rams made the plays that counted as the team broke out for a four-run fourth inning that put the win away. Offensively, the Lady Rams had a great effort as well with eight total hits in the game. Sophomore infielder Britney Cato led the way for the Lady Rams with two hits in two at-bats and three RBI. She hit a bases-loaded three-RBI triple to put the win away for the Lady Rams. Freshman outfielder Shantel Haskins added an RBI single as well. WSSU sophomore pitcher Brittany Lane (13-5) took home the pitching win with seven innings in the circle and allowing just four hits. She also added 15 strikeouts. With the win, the Lady Rams improve to 14-1 in the CIAA and remain undefeated in the CIAA Southern Division. |
