Senior Forward Posts Five Double-Doubles in February to Finish with 32 in NCCU Career

DURHAM, N.C. (www.NCCUEaglePride.com) - North Carolina Central University senior Jori Nwachukwu has been named the Nationwide Insurance NCCU Student-Athlete of the Month for February 2011 in recognition of her outstanding accomplishments in the classroom and on the hardwood as a member of the women’s basketball team.

A native of Upper Marlboro, Md., Nwachukwu averaged 17.4 points, 10.0 rebounds, 1.8 steals and 1.4 blocked shots in eight games during the month of February. She concluded the month on a strong note, recording five double-doubles in the last six contests, averaging 21.0 points and 11.8 rebounds during that span.

Nwachukwu enjoyed a host of outstanding individual performances in February. On Feb. 12 against Morgan State, she tallied 15 points, 11 rebounds and a season-high six steals during a 60-49 victory. Two nights later, the senior forward accumulated 19 points and 12 boards during a 60-50 win over Coppin State. On Feb. 19, Nwachukwu amassed a season-high 28 points to go along with 13 rebounds to beat Norfolk State, 62-56. She matched her season-high scoring output on Feb. 26 at Florida A&M with 28 points on 12-for-22 shooting from the field, then closed out the month with a season-high 16 rebounds at Bethune-Cookman on Feb. 28.

Her 14 double-doubles this season raise her career total to 32. She concluded the 2010-11 campaign with 440 points (14.7 points per game), 285 rebounds (9.5 rebounds per game), 43 blocked shots and 42 steals.

Nwachukwu is among the top five on the Lady Eagles career scoring and rebounding lists, ranking fifth with 1,410 points (14.8 per game) and fourth with 854 rebounds (9.0 per game). She also amassed 166 career steals and 99 career blocked shots.

She is on track to graduate this May with a degree in physical education.
