NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana's Zach Taylor and Melissa DeLoach are the inaugural Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Players of the Week in tennis for the 2011 season.
Taylor, a junior from Monroe, La., and a graduate of St. Frederick High School, was 4-1 in singles and 4-1 in doubles to help the Gold Rush win four of five dual matches. His singles victory clinched Xavier's dual against West Alabama, and his singles win against Prairie View A&M helped the Rush rally to defeat the defending Southwestern Athletic Conference champion and 2010 NCAA Tournament participant.
DeLoach, a senior from Fort Washington, Md., and a graduate of Bishop McNamara High School, was 2-2 in singles and 3-1 in doubles. She won singles and doubles matches in the Gold Nuggets' only victory of the week, 5-2 against Our Lady of the Lake.
Xavier's women are idle this week, but the men, ranked 14th in the NAIA, will play 17th-ranked Martin Methodist at 4 p.m. Friday and Tennessee State at 10 a.m. Sunday at Nashville, Tenn.

NOTES:  XU Coach Alan Green announced several schedule changes. His teams will not compete in the Oklahoma Christian Invitational next week. The Gold Nuggets will travel to LSU for a 1 p.m. dual Feb. 27. Both teams will travel to California in early March and play at home March 26 against perennial NAIA power Auburn Montgomery. Both AUM teams are ranked second.
