Shaw’s Tony Smith Named CIAA Newcomer of the Week Sherri Fillingham 1/03/11 (Raleigh, NC)- The CIAA today named Shaw’s Tony Smith its Newcomer of the Week in recognition of his performances in Shaw’s two games the week of December 26-31. Tony Smith (Jr., guard, 6-5, Greenville, NC) continued to be a lynchpin in the Shaw attack this week. His 21 points against Columbus State helped the Bears squeak by with the 76-74 win. For the week, the Bears went 1-1 with a win over Columbus State and a one-point loss to Clayton State, both as part of the Heritage Bank Holiday Classic on the campus of Clayton State. Shaw is now 7-2 on the season heading into CIAA action this week. Shaw returns to action Thursday, January 6 to open their CIAA season against Saint Paul’s at 8:00 p.m.
