(Washington, DC)- Five Lady Bears scored in double figures as Shaw dominated New Haven for a 92-42 win at the UDC Holiday Classic.

The Lady Bears (6-3), broke open the game late in the first half, largely on the back of well-timed three-pointers, then had another scoring run midway through the second to hand New Haven (2-7) the 50-point loss.

Shaw had a hot hand from beyond the arc in the first half, hitting eight of 16 – while hitting only 10 of 21 from inside the arc. They cooled in the second, but still finished the game hitting 42.7% from the field. Ranked nationally in field goal percentage defense, Shaw held the Chargers to only 24.5% shooting for the game.

Shaw broke on top out of the gate, and never trailed in the game, but the Chargers stayed within ten of the Lady Bears through much of the first half.

After a three minute scoring drought in the first half, Audrey Cunningham hit a three for New Haven, cutting the Shaw lead to five. Eleven seconds later, Jackie Sanders nailed a three of her own for the Lady Bears, and started a 28-4 scoring run for the Lady Bears that helped them to a 51-22 lead at the half.

The Chargers never mounted a run in the second as Shaw continuously built upon the lead. With 1:51 left, New Haven scored their last bucket of the afternoon, but the Bears went on a mini scoring tear, scoring six straight points to give them the 50-point margin of victory.

Kyria Buford led the Lady Bears with 17 points, while Aslea Williams had her second straight double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Brittney Spencer had 16 points for Shaw, while Brittany Ransom had 14, and Sanders 13 to round out the double-digit scorers for the Lady Bears. Spencer led Shaw with six assists.

Lauren Bolvin, with ten points, was the only UNH player to score in double figures. Anh-Dao Tran and Olivia DeMarco had nine rebounds apiece and Tran paced the Chargers with five assists.

The Lady Bears now go on Christmas break, but will return to action on January 30 when they travel to Nova Southeastern University for a 2:00 p.m. tip. They return home on Thursday, January 6 to open their CIAA season against Saint Paul’s at 6:00 p.m.
