MEAC ANNOUNCES WOMEN’S BASKETBALL WEEKLY HONORS

Lady Bison’s Doyle, Lady Wildcats’ Hairston and Lady Rattlers’ Donald Earn Weekly Honors

NORFOLK, Va., December 6, 2010- Howard forward Saadia Doyle was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday. Bethune-Cookman’s Amanda Hairston earned Rookie of the Week honors, while Florida A&M’s Qiana Donald earned Defensive Player of the Week accolades.

Doyle (Forward, 5-11, r-So., Atlanta, Georgia) averaged 19.5 points, 9.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals to aid Howard to a 1-1 mark last week. She shot 50-percent from the field (14-of-28), 67-percent from beyond the arc (2-of-3), and 9-of-12 from the charity stripe. In a win over Long Island, she recorded 24 points and eight rebounds. She followed that performance with her fourth double-double of the year (15 points, 10 rebounds) against Hampton.

Hairston (Forward, 6-0, Fr., Greensboro, North Carolina) totaled 14 points, including 4-of-7 from the floor and 6-of-7 from the free-throw line, along with nine rebounds in a conference loss to Florida A&M.

Donald (Forward, 6-1, Jr., Jacksonville, Florida) pulled down a season high 13 rebounds, along with one steal in a win over Bethune-Cookman. Offensively, she added 13 points in 29 minutes of play.

Other Top Performers:

Marian Brooks (NSU) totaled eight points including 60-percent from the floor (3-of-5) against North Carolina A&T.

Amber Cook (UMES) posted 11 points and two rebounds in a loss to Syracuse.

Rae Corbo (NSU) scored 17 points in a loss to North Carolina A&T.

Brittany Dodson (MSU) totaled 40 points, nine rebounds, and five assists in three games for the Lady Bears.

Cherisha Floyd (SCSU) scored nine points and five rebounds in 20 minutes of play in a win over North Carolina Central.

Demetria Frank (B-CU) led her team with 18 points, seven rebounds and four steals in a lost to Florida A&M.

Tracy King (NCAT) aided the Lady Aggies to a 1-1 week with nine points, six rebounds and four steals.
Tameka McKelton (FAMU) tallied 15 points in a conference win over Bethune-Cookman.

Casey Morton (UMES) led UMES in scoring with 12 points and four rebounds against Syracuse.

Crystal Murdaugh (NCAT) recorded a double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds to lead North Carolina A&T over Norfolk State last week.

Jalessa Sams (NCAT) averaged 20.5 points and 5.0 rebounds to aid the Lady Aggies to a 1-1 mark last week.

Whitney Southerland (MSU) scored 10 points off the bench along with two rebounds and a steal against UNC-Greensboro.

Shanyce Stewart (UMES) shot 67-percent from the floor (2-of-3) with five points and three boards in 18 minutes of action for the Lady Hawks against Syracuse.

Whitney Wiley (SCSU) connected on 53-percent from the field and 67-percent from 3-pt range with 22 points and five steals in a non-conference win against North Carolina Central.
