ECSU Improves to 5-0 With Win at Ben Waterman Classic

WILBERFORCE, OH-The Elizabeth City State University Vikings rode a twenty point halftime cushion to a 69-50 win over Wilberforce University Friday afternoon at the Ben Waterman Classic on the campus of Central State University.

B.J. Williams led all scorers with a career high 14 points off the bench for ECSU, draining a personal best of four shots (all in second half) from beyond the three point arc. As a team, the Vikings shot a season best 9-16 from long range and behind Williams’ scoring outburst, outscored the Wilberforce reserves 36-19.

Wilberforce’s only lead of the game came on the game’s opening basket. The Vikings would lead by as many as 18 points in the first half and held a 41-21 lead at the intermission.

The Viking’s lead swelled to 31 points in the second half. Wilberforce (1-4) managed to close the gap to a more respectable span by hitting of five of their seven three-pointers after the halftime break.

Trent Bivens was the only other Viking in double figures with 11 points all of which came in the first half.
