KSU’s Smith Tabbed SIAC Newcomer of the Week Danielle R. Wright, Director FRANKFORT, Ky. – The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced it’s weekly Men’s and Women’s Basketball honors and Kentucky State’s Kevin Smith has been named the Newcomer of the Week. Smith, a red-shirt-sophomore and junior college transfer, is from Detroit, Mich. Last week he averaged 11 points and 7.5 rebounds in two games. The 6-5 forward also averaged two steals and one assist per contest. He helped lead Kentucky State to a 2-0 record for the week with wins over Claflin and Benedict. In the game against Claflin, Smith racked up 10 points and four rebounds and had one steal. In Saturday’s game against Benedict, he recorded a double-double with 12 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Smith and the Thorobreds return to action on Saturday, December 4 at 3 p.m. as they take on the Claflin Panthers at the Exum Center.
