BRONCOS CLIPPED IN SHOOTOUT AT FLORIDA TECH THANKSGIVING CLASSIC
Broncos’ Evans leads all players in points, rebounds and steals in 101-98 loss

MELBOURNE, FL – Florida Tech handed Fayetteville State its first loss of the season in men’s basketball after holding off the Broncos 101-98 in the Florida Tech Thanksgiving Classic on Friday night.

The Broncos (2-1), who won their first two games in a span of four days, shook off an 11-day layoff with a strong effort against the Panthers, who improved to 6-1 on the season. Sidney Evans (Jr., Durham, NC) led all players with 24 points, 13 rebounds and four steals. Ariel Robinson (Sr., Coral Springs, FL) added 18 points on 7-of-12 shooting while John Herrington (Jr., Jacksonville, NC) chipped in 13 points and six rebounds. Seth Hawkins (So., Greensboro, NC) had a team-high eight assists. Justin Sedlak led five Florida Tech players in double figures with 22 points to go with nine rebounds. Simon Cummings added 21 points and 10 assists while Julius Reid had 19 points, Anthony Jackson 11 and Derek Hellemann 10. Florida Tech led 45-38 at the half, but the Broncos stayed in the game thanks to shooting 57.5 percent from the field in the second half. Fayetteville State scored 60 points in the second half, but couldn’t pull out the victory. The Broncos play Barry College at 2 p.m. in their second game of the Classic. The game is the second in a six-game, six week stretch away from home. Fayetteville State will return to Capel Arena on Jan. 6 to play CIAA foe Bowie State at 7:30 p.m.
