Two Lady Tigers Earn Soccer Preseason All-SWAC Honors Rodney Bush 08/17/10 ![]() Birmingham,
AL-It seems that Texas Southern’s new soccer head coach brought some
respect to the Lady Tigers program. The Southwestern Athletic Conference
(SWAC) released its 2010 season preseason honors and predictions today,
and TSU appears to have made an impression for the first time in years.The Lady Tigers are predicted to finish third in the Western Division ahead of Southern and Grambling State. Arkansas Pine-Bluff was first, followed by Prairie View A&M. Two TSU Players were named to the 2010 Preseason All-SWAC team. Junior defender Saycha Mitchell (Sacramento, CA) and sophomore midfielder Nailah Johnson (Cathedral City, CA) were both named to the second team. “I’m honored that we would be picked to finish 3rd after not making the tournament the year before,” said head coach Tamura Crawley-Marigny. “It shows respect for the talent on our team and respect for my hard work in turning this program around. I am also pleased that Saycha and Nailah were recognized for their abilities. Now it’s time for us to show what we can do on the field.” The Lady Tigers play their first game on Wednesday, August 18th against Lamar. The exhibition game will be at 6:00pm on TSU’s Durley Field. The All-SWAC honors and predictions are selected by the SWAC head coaches, sports information directors and selected members of the media. |
