Five UMES runners look to finish season on high note at historic Hayward Field

EUGENE, Ore. - Five runners from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore outdoor
track and field team will embark on the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field
Championships Wednesday through Saturday at the historic Hayward Field on the
campus of the University of Oregon.

The men's 4x100 relay looks to continue their success as they've already broken the
school record three times. The quartet of junior Thomas Keane-Dawes (Camden, N.C.),
senior Allodin Fothergill (New Hempstead, N.Y.) and sophomores Damian Miles
(Teaneck, N.J.) and Akheem Gauntlett (Roselle, N.J.) broke the previous record of
40.33, which was set at the 2009 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Championships. The
squad broke the 40-second mark with a time of 39.76 at the NCAA Eastern Regional to
qualify for this week's NCAA Championships.

Sophomore Jermol Dix (Catonsville, Md.) will compete in place of Fothergill who is
unable to run due to an injury.

Wednesday's running events are kicked off with the 4x100 relay, beginning at 7 p.m.
EST.

Sophomore Cynthia Anais (Martinique, France) is the lone female to compete for the
Hawks. She qualified for Nationals in the women's 800-meter run with her school-record
breaking time of 2:05.33, which was also set at the Eastern Regional.

The women's 800m follows the 4x100 and is set to begin at 7:45 p.m. EST.

The trip to the NCAA Championships is the first for all five competitors.

All four days of competition consist of only semifinals and finals as the best 24 student-
athletes in each event vie for a national title.

Live results will be available on the NCAA's web site, www.ncaa.com and also on
UMESHawks.com

CBS will televise the final two hours of the meet live from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday.
CBS College Sports will have a live broadcast window on Friday from 5-7 p.m.

Additionally, other than when CBS/CBS College Sports is on air, there will be a live web
cast of the championships available on NCAA.com.

Extended coverage of the event will be provided by the University of Oregon and their
official web site, www.goducks.com. A live blog, photo galleries, real-time race recaps
and video interviews will be available.

Tickets still remain for the event, but are going fast. Wednesday and Thursday's ticket
prices range from $10 to $20 while the Friday and Saturday's admission ranges from $15
to $30.
