Two UMES competitors advance to Friday's quarterfinals

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Sophomore Cynthia Anais (Martinique, France) and senior Allodin
Fothergill (New Hempstead, N.Y.) continued their quest for an NCAA Outdoor Track and Field
title Thursday as they finished the first day of competition of the NCAA Division I Eastern
Regional at Irwin Belk Track on the campus of North Carolina A&T State University.

Within the track events, the top three finishers per heat (15 total) advance to the quarterfinals.
The next six top overall finishers also qualify for the next round.

Anais finished highest for the University of Maryland Eastern Shore as she place ninth overall
and second in her heat in the women's 800-meter run with a time of 2:06.14. Sophomore Eunice
Jones (Lanham, Md.) missed the cut as she finished 26th overall and fourth in her heat with a
mark of 2:09.50.

Anais will compete in the 800m quarterfinals at 6:45 p.m. Friday.

In the men's 400-meter dash, Fothergill finished second in his heat and 15th overall with a time of
46.22. Junior Thomas Keane-Dawes (Camden, N.C.) narrowly missed a qualifying mark, as his
time of 46.78 was good for fifth in his heat and 24th overall.

Fothergill continues his season with the 400m quarterfinals Friday at 5:30 p.m.

Sophomore Johan Welter (Paris, France) finished his season in the men's 400-meter hurdles as
he finished 34th overall with a time of 53.12.

In the lone field event for the Hawks, sophomore Vanessa Henry (Capital Heights, Md.) also
completed her season in the shot put as she finished 26th overall with a distance of 14.88 meters.

In addition to Anais and Fothergill, sophomore Damian Miles (Teaneck, N.J.) will compete at
7:30 p.m. Friday in the men's 200-meter dash.
