Albany State Lady Rams to compete in NCAA softball regional tournament Edythe Y. Bradley 05/10/10 The Albany State University Lady Rams are headed to Valdosta, Ga. to make their fourth appearance in the NCAA Division II Softball Region Tournament. The double-elimination tournament, hosted by Valdosta State University, is May 14-16. VSU will host one of two South Region tournaments. The Lady Rams, who recently captured their fourth Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) softball title, enter the tournament as the number four team in the tournament and number eight overall in the South Region. Albany State (38-23) will face number one Valdosta State (42-6) on Friday, May 14, at 6:30 p.m. University of West Florida, ranked number two, will face third-seed Palm Beach Atlantic University (34-11) at 4 p.m. The winners of both games will play Saturday at 1:30 p.m., and the losers will play at 4 p.m. Last season, the NCAA split the regional tournaments into two host sites for each region, with the winner of the two sites participating in a three-game super regional series the following weekend. Alabama-Huntsville (39-10) will host the other South Region tournament, with #2 Rollins College (44-4), #3 University of Arkansas-Monticello (50-10) and fourth-seed Nova Southeastern University (45-15). The Lady Rams advanced to the regional tournament by defeating the Fort Valley State University Wildcats, 5-3, and claiming the SIAC championship title. "We are ready for the competition and we are always excited about competing at this level. We have worked very hard and played very hard this year," head coach Robert Skinner said. "It is an honor to not only represent Albany State, but the SIAC as well in the tournament." Tickets per day are $5 for adults, $3 for senior citizens and students with valid identification, and $2 for youths age 3-11.
