Clark Atlanta Seeded Fourth in East Division for 2010 SIAC Softball Championship

ATLANTA (April 20, 2010)– The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Softball Championship will be held in Columbus, GA for the second consecutive year. The 2010 championship is set for April 22-24 at the South Commons Sports Complex.

Eleven SIAC softball playing institutions will be in Columbus, GA for this week’s action. Clark Atlanta University’s (CAU) Lady Panthers (20-22, 9-11 SIAC), seeded No. 4 in the East Division, take on West Division No. 3 seed Tuskegee University at 9 a.m. Thursday, April 22. In their only match-up this season, Tuskegee defeated Clark Atlanta 6-3 at the 2010 SIAC Crossover Tournament (March 18).

CAU’s Ashley Brooks and Lakeisha Pruitt will be relied upon for their consistent and dominant hitting. Brooks, a sophomore from Douglasville, Ga., leads the nation in home runs per game (0.44) and slugging percentage (1.123). Pruitt, a junior from Ocilla, Ga. sits at No. 4 in the nation for both home runs per game (0.39) and slugging percentage (0.983).

The South Commons Softball Complex and Stadium has seven fields and a stadium field that hosts hundreds of local league competitions. In its short history, the complex has also hosted dozens of local, state, regional, national and even international softball competitions such as the Superball Classic. The complex also hosted the Women's Fast-pitch Competition during the 1996 Olympic Games.
