Houston standout signs with Gold Rush for men's tennis

NEW ORLEANS -- Amir Rahbar of Houston has signed a men's tennis scholarship with Xavier University of Louisiana.Rahbar, a right-hander and a Tennis Recruiting.net three-star recruit, was a combined 32-2 in singles and doubles for Memorial High School during the fall to help the Mustangs win the Region III-5A championship and reach the Class 5A semifinals in November.

The Mustangs were unbeaten during the 2008 regular season.Rahbar reached the championship match in five amateur tournaments in 2009 and won once.

He moved to Houston for 11th grade after helping Okemos High School in Lansing, Mich., win the Lower Peninsula Division 2 state championship his freshman year.

Xavier is ranked 16th in the NAIA and must replace seniors Cameron Knowles and Mario Myles from this year's team. Rahbar is the first to sign with the Gold Rush for next season.
