Clark Atlanta University Ready for Tennis, Track and Field Conference

Wright 04/14/10 ATLANTA (April 14, 2010) – After months of preparation and competition, Clark Atlanta University’s (CAU) tennis and track and field teams begin their quest for the 2010 SIAC Championship titles. The teams do not have to travel far, as both the tennis and track and field championships will be held in Atlanta April 15-17. The Lady Panthers Tennis squad, led by sophomore Keva Palmer, enters this year’s championship tournament as the #4 seed with a record of 4-11 (3-8 SIAC) and will play #5 seeded Stillman College in the first round on Thursday, April 15 at 9:00 a.m. at the McGhee Tennis Center (820 Beecher Court Southwest). With a win, CAU moves on to face the winner of #1 Tuskegee vs. #8 Lane on Friday at 9:00 a.m. Championship Finals are Saturday, April 17 at 12 noon. CAU’s Track and Field teams also begin competing in the SIAC Championship on Thursday. With six meets under their belts, the Panthers and lady Panthers look to have strong performances by Maury Swift (400 meter race), Douglas Coley (400 meter race), Breanna Pleasant (5,000 meter run) and Janee Douglas (3,000 meter steeple). The championship commences at 8:00 am with the decathlon; opening ceremony is slated for 3:00 p.m. All events take place at the Edwin Moses Track inside B.T. Harvey Stadium on the campus of Morehouse College. Admission is free for both championships. |
