Lady Rams Take 5-0 Loss at North Carolina A&T Trevin Q. Goodwin 04/11/10 Four WSSU hits not enough in shutout loss GREENSBORO, NC – The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (4-17) couldn’t get the runs across the plate in a 5-0 loss at North Carolina A&T (16-17), Sunday afternoon. The Lady Rams had a solid effort at the plate with four team hits, but the squad couldn’t get any runs across the plate in the shutout loss. The Lady Rams were able to get seven runners on base with four team hits and three walks, but all seven runners were stranded in the tough shutout loss. Senior infielder Whitney Hall led the effort with a pair of singles in the game. Junior shortstop Bonika Terry added her first double of the season as well. Both teams turned up their defensive efforts early with both teams going scoreless for the first two innings of the game. However, a North Carolina A&T three-run homer in the third inning untied the score. A fourth-inning Lady Aggie ground out RBI single and a sixth-inning home run left the Lady Rams with the shutout loss. WSSU freshman pitcher Brittany Lane (2-10) took the pitching loss, allowing 10 hits and five earned runs in six innings of action. With the loss, the Lady Rams close out the weekend series with a 1-2 record. The Lady Rams won’t have long to rest as the team will return home to host the Bethune-Cookman Lady Wildcats at South Park Field in a weekend series that will begin with a Saturday doubleheader. |
