WSSU notches eight hits in victory

GREENSBORO, NC – The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (4-16) had an offensive breakout in a 5-2 win over the rival North Carolina A&T Lady Aggies (15-17), Saturday afternoon. The win turned out to be just what the doctor ordered as the Lady Rams as the team snapped a seven-game skid with the victory.

The Lady Rams’ bats powered the team to its win as the team put eight hits in the scorebook. The team got things going early, jumping out to a 4-2 lead after the first three innings. The Lady Rams scored three third-inning runs to take over the game. Junior infielder Bonika Terry drove in the first score of the inning while senior infielder Whitney Hall added a two-RBI double. The Lady Rams would add one more score when the team took advantage of some Lady Aggie fielding errors to seal the 5-2 victory.

WSSU senior designated hitter Whitney Hall led the way for the Lady Rams with a two-for-four effort at the plate with a run scored and two RBI. Six more Lady Rams recorded one hit each in the win. WSSU freshman Tiffany Burgess picked up the pitching win with three innings pitched and four strikeouts. Fellow freshman Brittany Lane pitched four innings with one hit allowed and five strikeouts.
