Lady Rams Tennis Falls Just Short; WSSU Drops 4-3 Decision To North Carolina A&T Chris Zona 04/09/10 Sixth singles match decides the match as Lady Aggies sneak out win GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Winston-Salem State University Lady Rams tennis team fell just short of a victory on Friday afternoon in Greensboro, N.C. as the Lady Aggies of North Carolina A&T State University used a straight-set victory at sixth singles to down WSSU at the NC A&T Tennis Complex. The Lady Aggies captured the doubles point to open the match as Nina and Nianna Henry’s 8-2 victory over Johanna Nunez and Chelsea Chatman at third doubles gave North Carolina A&T an early 1-0 advantage. The Lady Rams would capture points at first, second and fourth singles as Sloane Holmes downed Jaymee Jones 6-3, 6-1 at first singles; Kayla Carter defeated Nina Henry 6-4, 6-4 at second singles and Johanna Nunez cruised past Danielle McCaskill 6-3, 6-2 at fourth singles to earn WSSU three points. However, it would prove to be Azeib Nigatu’s 6-1, 6-0 victory over Chelsea Chatman at sixth singles that sealed the win for the Lady Aggies as North Carolina A&T earned the narrow 4-3 win. The loss drops the Lady Rams to 5-14 on the season while North Carolina A&T improves to 7-8 with the victory. The Lady Rams return to action on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. as they play host to the Royals of Queens University of Charlotte at the WSSU Tennis Complex.
