Chowan University Set to Announce New Basketball Coach Wednesday Meredith Long 04/06/10 MURFREESBORO – Dr. M. Christopher White, President of Chowan University, and Dennis Helsel, Vice President for Athletics, will announce the school’s new men’s basketball coach on Wednesday, April 7th at 12:00pm in an open press conference. The press conference will be held in the recently dedicated Helms Center lobby. The search for a new men’s basketball coach was initiated in early March by Helsel. Nearly 200 applications for the position crossed his desk. “Early in the process, an April 1st selection date for the new head coach was set,” stated Helsel. “The April 1st date would allow the new coach to actively participate in the recruiting of prospective student-athletes as April and May are two important months in NCAA DII recruiting. We basically met our deadline and are poised to win some recruiting battles.”
