Lady Rams Fall Short in 4-2 Loss at Florida A&M Trevin Q. Goodwin 04/03/10 WSSU early surge not enough in loss TALLAHASSEE, FL – The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (3-15) couldn’t hold off the defending Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference champions in a 4-2 loss at Florida A&M (18-15), Saturday. After scoring a pair of first inning runs, the Lady Rams allowed four late unanswered runs to the Lady Rattlers in the loss. It was freshman pitcher Brittany Lane and junior infielder Bonika Terry who put the Lady Rams on the scoreboard with a pair of first inning runs. Lane opened the game with a lead-off double to right field. She would come in for the first WSSU score of the game on a sacrifice bunt by junior infielder Kayla Woodbury. A FAMU fielding error would allow the second Lady Ram score of the game. The Lady Rams allowed a pair of fourth inning runs, an RBI single and a WSSU wild pitch would allow the runs. The Lady Rams would allow one run each to FAMU in the fifth and sixth innings to seal the WSSU 4-2 loss. AS a team, the Lady Rams managed seven hits in the game. Lane (2-8) took the pitching loss, going all six innings with seven hits allowed, one strikeout and a walk. The Lady Rams will return to action next weekend when the team heads to nearby Greensboro, N.C. to take on the rival North Carolina A&T Lady Aggies. |
