HAWKS ARE BLANKED BY HOWARD IN MEAC TENNIS

Knock-out style matches result in 4-0, 5-0 defeats for the Fighting and Lady Hawks.

DOVER, Del.-In a match that was rescheduled several times, the University of
Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) finally got to play Howard University, this time at the
Colonial Racquet Club in Dover, Del. The Hawks didn't have home court advantage and
it showed, as the Fighting Hawks fell 4-0 and the Lady Hawks, 5-0 in "knock-out" style
matches, where a match ended once it was decided.

On the men's side new coach Harold Fowler was pleased with the effort. "We had all-
around good play from our men. We changed some positions and had some outstanding
matches, in fact the best match-play of the year."

Rashad James fell at No. 1 singles 6-3, 6-2, MarQuet Robinson fell 6-2, 6-1 and Emmash
Sudusinghe fell at No. 3 singles 6-4, 6-3 to decide the singles matches. Sudusinghe
played a great doubles match with Richard Warren, falling 8-6 in a close match at No. 3
doubles.

On the women's side Solana McMillan and Paula Vilas played well at No. 1 doubles,
falling 8-4. They both fell in singles action, 6-0, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-0 respectively. Kira
Chapman and Samantha Pickard both fell at No. 5 and No. 6 singles by the same score 6-
0, 6-0.

UMES is back in action tomorrow, April 3 when they host the Hornets at the Hawks
Outdoor Tennis Complex in Princess Anne. The conference match is scheduled for a
1:00 p.m. start
