UNCA sweeps Lady Rams in straight sets in all nine matches

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The Winston-Salem State University women’s tennis team fell in defeat to the Bulldogs of UNC-Asheville 7-0 on Wednesday afternoon at the Crowne Plaza Tennis Center in Asheville, N.C. as the Bulldogs earned straight-set victories in all nine matches.

UNC-Asheville opened the match by sweeping three doubles matches en route to securing the doubles point. WSSU’s pairing of Holmes/Locklear turned in the Lady Rams’ best doubles performance by recording five points at first doubles.

The Bulldogs followed up their doubles point with six consecutive straight-set victories en route securing all six singles points.

Despite the sweep, Winston-Salem State earned 21 points in the course of the six matches in a losing effort. The Lady Rams, playing in their third match in the span of a week, earned points in all 12 sets but were unable to hold off the Bulldogs.

The loss drops the Lady Rams to 4-13 on the season while the Bulldogs improve to 11-5 in 2010 with the victory.

Winston-Salem State returns to action on Saturday, April 3, 2010 at 9:00 a.m. as they play host to West Virginia State University at the WSSU Tennis Center.
