Track student-athletes take weekly honors

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Sophomore Cynthia Anais (Paris, France) and Akheem
Gauntlett (Roselle, N.J.) have been named University of Maryland Eastern Shore
Athletes of the Week for the period ending March 21.

Anais, of the women's track and field team, won the 800 meters at the Wake Forest Open
in Winston-Salem, N.C. She finished in a time of 2:11.71, topping a field of 113 runners
in the non-scoring meet. She also posted a top-20 performance in the 1,500-meter run. In
a field of 118 runners, Anais turned in a time of 4:44.82.

Gauntlett, on the men's track and field team, won the men's 100 meters, besting the 78
runner field with a time of 10.50. A personal best, the time is better than any Hawk ran
all of last season.

UMES is back in action at the Releigh Relays March 26-27.
