The NCAA Division II Football Committee announced today the field of 24 teams for the 2009 NCAA Division II Football Championship.

The Albany State University Golden Rams earned the #3 seed in the Super Regional II, and will host Gulf South Conference member, the #6 seeded Tigers of West Alabama in the first-round of the playoffs on Saturday, Nov. 14, at Albany Municipal Stadium in Albany, Georgia. Kick-off is set for 12 noon.

ASU will make its sixth consecutive appearance in the Division II Football Championship playoffs and first-ever meeting against West Alabama. Last season the Golden Rams fell to Tusculum College in the first round, 34-22.

Gulf South Champion North Alabama University (10-1), ranked number one, and #2 Carson Newman University (9-2) received first-round byes. Arkansas Tech (8-2) is ranked fourth and will host #5 UNC-Pembroke (9-1) on Saturday in Russellville, Arkansas. The winner of the Albany State-West Alabama game will advance to the second round to face #2 Carson Newman in Jefferson City, Tenn., while the winner of the Arkansas Tech-UNC-Pembroke game will play North Alabama on in Florence, Ala., on Nov. 21.

Second-round winners will meet in the quarterfinals at various campus sites. Quarterfinal winners will advance to play in the semifinals on the campus of one of the competing institutions. Six teams selected per super regional make up the field of 24 teams.

The University of Minnesota, Duluth defeated Northwest Missouri State in the 2008 national championship game to claim the NCAA title.

The championship game will be played December 12, at 1 p.m. Eastern time at Braly Municipal Stadium in Florence, Alabama and will be broadcast live on ESPN2 HD. The 2009 championship will mark 24 consecutive years that the Division II championship game has been played in Florence. In addition, both semifinal games will be played on Saturday, December 5. Kick-off will be at either 3:30 p.m. Eastern time on ESPN HD or 8:30 p.m. Eastern time on CBS College HD.
