Jerrell Fields leads Rams with three-round total of 239

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Jerrell Fields’ three-day total of 239 led the Winston-Salem State University men’s golf team to an eighth-place finish at the Bethune-Cookman University fall golf invitational as Fields’ 27th-place individual finish paced the Rams who closed out play with a three-day total of 1,001.

Despite windy conditions the Rams stayed consistent over the three day competition held at the par 72, 6,984-yard LPGA Legends Course in Daytona Beach, Florida as WSSU posted three consecutive eighth-place finishes to close out the event ahead of rivals South Carolina State and Hampton University and only 26 strokes behind rival North Carolina Central.

Fields led the Rams with his 239 (74-88-77=239) while teammate Devin Cherry earned a tie for 33rd overall with a 244 (86-82-76=244).

Kevin Veach (95-89-78=262) earned a tie for 43rd place with a 262 and Kenneth Lathan finished tied for 45th with a 263 (90-86-87=263) to round out the top four scorers for the Rams.

Steven Mason served as the Rams’ alternate golfer with rounds of 97, 82 and 95 for a total of 274 while Michael Asbury recorded rounds of 97, 80 and 85 as an individual.

The Rams return to action Nov. 7-9, 2009 as they travel to Savannah, Georgia for the Tiger Fall Invitational.
