LADY TROJANS FINISH THIRD AT CIAA CROSS-COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIP

Virginia State University's women's cross-country team finished third at the CIAA Cross-Country Championship, held on October 22 in Cary, N.C. VSU finished third with 59 team points, second to co-champions Saint Augustine's College and Bowie State University, who finished with 44 points apiece. Jenna Arnold was the top finisher for VSU, completing the five-kilometer course in a time of 21:44.3. Barbara Pierre of Saint Augustine's won individual honors with a time of 20:10.6. VSU's Sierra Clayton was 10th with a time of 21:58.2 and Shayla Szabo was 11th at 21:59.3. Raphaela Garris was 16th in a time of 22:30.6 and Shanise Lewis rounded out the scoring with a 17th place finish in a time of 22:33.7. VSU's Jordan Johnson was 21st with a time of 23:04.8 and Faith Brock was 43rd with a time of 26:07.1?

Virginia State University's men's cross-country team finished third at the 2009 CIAA Cross-Country Championship, held on October 22 in Cary, N.C. VSU finished the meet with 83 team points, behind champion Bowie State University's 42 points and Saint Augustine's College's 67 points. Timothy Davidson was the top VSU finisher, completing the eight-kilometer course in fifth place with a time of 27:46.2. Saint Augustine's College's Johnny Shuping was the individual champion, finishing the course in a time of 24:59.3. VSU's Brandon Allen was 14th in a time of 29:21.4 while teammate Eric Williamson was 17th with a time of 29:41.0. Andres McIntyre was 19th with a time of 30:16.1 and Maurice Brown was 28th with a time of 31:13.1. VSU's Mark Simms was 32nd with a time of 31:22.6 and Keith Brown was 38th at 32:41.3.
