Lady Rams Close Out Play At ITA Carolina Regionals With 0-2 Mark WSSU drops one singles match and one doubles contest Christopher Zona WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Winston-Salem State University Lady Rams tennis team posted an 0-2 mark in second-day action from the ITA Carolina Regionals from the campus of Wake Forest University as WSSU closed out tournament play. In doubles action the WSSU pairing of Laken Joyce and Gabrielle Benjamin dropped an 8-0 decision to Campbell University’s Cristina Garcia and Borislava Nikolova. WSSU’s Sloane Holmes fell in defeat 6-1, 6-2 to Elizaveta Zaytseva of Winthrop in the Lady Rams’ lone singles contest of the tournament. “Sloane played well today, but serving was her nemesis” WSSU head coach Charlie Schoderbek commented post-match. “It was a well-played match, but experience was the main factor in the number of games Sloane won. The Lady Rams return to action on Jan. 31, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. as they travel to Clinton, S.C. to face Presbyterian.
