Lady Bears Picked to Finish in a Tie for Second in West; Men Third

NC) – Junior point guard Raheem Smith (6-2, 200, Greenville, NC) has been
named to the Pre-Season All-CIAA Basketball team. The announcement was made
at the CIAA Basketball Media Day.Smith averaged 13.7 points, 2.8 assists, and 3.5 rebounds per game last season. He led the Bears in both points and assists.
Also announced was the Predicted Order of Finish for this season. The Lady Bears (14-13 last year, 10-8 in the CIAA) were picked to finish in a tie for second in the Western Division with Fayetteville State. Reigning champions, Johnson C. Smith, were picked to finish first in the division and repeat as champions.
For the men, the Bears were picked to finish third in the Western Division. Saint Augustine’s was picked to finish second in the division, and reigning champions Johnson C. Smith were picked to win the division and repeat as champions.
The Lady Bears open their season with an exhibition on October 30 against M.I. Express. The men open at home on November 16 in a doubleheader with the Lady Bears against Virginia Union.
