WSSU Women’s Tennis Faces Tough Challenge On Day One Of HBCU

Lady Rams post a cumulative record of 1-6 in singles tournament
competition
Chris ZonaATLANTA, Ga. – The Winston-Salem State University Lady Rams
tennis team battled valiantly on Thursday afternoon at the HBCU Tennis
Invitational but found the competition stiff en route to posting a
cumulative record of 1-6 in first-day action.
WSSU’s Sloan Roberts would turn in the most successful campaign on
Thursday as the freshman played like a seasoned veteran as she recorded
the Lady Rams’ only win of the afternoon.
Roberts dispatched Roberta Robinson of Fort Valley State University 6-0,
6-0 in women’s “A” flight competition before falling in defeat to
Florida A&M’s Rachel Pye in second round action 1-6, 2-6.
Kayla Carter dropped a 2-6, 4-6 decision to Florida A&M University’s
Latreece Olaggbegi in “A” flight competition and Johanna Nunez fell in
defeat to Howard University’s Na-Hyun Beak 0-6, 0-6.
In “B” flight action, WSSU’s Chelsea Chatman dropped a 5-7, 2-6 decision
to Alabama A&M University’s Jasmine Cherry and Bianka Locklear lost an
0-6, 1-6 match to Demetria Woods of Southern University.
Rounding out the WSSU competitors, Kalin Jarvis dropped a heartbreaker
to Nina Henry of North Carolina A&T 7-6 (9-7), 6-7 (10-12), 8-10 to
close the day.
The Lady Rams tennis team returns to action on Friday afternoon as they
participate in second-day action from the HBCU Tennis Invitational.
