Volleyball, cross-country student-athletes earn weekly honors

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Sophomore Christine Edwards (Lakewood, Calif.) and
junior Amon Kiprotich (Kapsabet, Kenya) have been named University of Maryland
Eastern Shore Athlete of the Week for the period ending Sept. 7.

Edwards, an outside hitter of the women's volleyball team, helped the Hawks win the
Runnin' Bulldog Classic, hosted by Gardner-Webb, with a 3-1 record. Edwards was
named tournament MVP and also earned all-tournament team honors. She totaled 65
kills, a .285 hitting percentage 28 digs, six aces and two blocks for the weekend. It is the
second consecutive week Edwards was named UMES Athletet of the Week.

UMES (5-3) next travels to Dover, Del., for the Delaware State Invitational Sept. 11-12.

Kiprotich, of the men's cross-country team, finished 18th in a time 27:08.42. He was the
Hawks' top finisher. UMES was fifth overall, scoring 140 points.

The Hawks run next at the Towson Invitational in Hunt Valley, Md., Sept. 12.
