HSRN ANNOUNCES 2009 FOOTBALL BROADCAST SCHEDULE
LeCounte Conaway 08/24/09

Hartly, DE – The Heritage Sports Radio Network (HSRN) has announced their 2009 football broadcast schedule featuring 15 exciting games including the “Super 7 Series” of classic events.  “We are excited about the schedule because we believe we were able to feature games from each of the HBCU conferences, along with the exciting major classic games across the country,” said HSRN CEO, Omarr Bashir.

HSRN will kick off its schedule on (Sat. Aug. 29) with the “The Battle of the First” two HBCU’s in the country – Lincoln University (PA) and Cheyney University in Philadelphia, PA.

The highlight of the season is the “Super 7 Series” which includes seven events that will bring the major Classic games to the HBCU national community. The series will open (Sept. 5) in Nashville, TN with the John Merritt Classic featuring Tennessee State and Alabama A&M.  The “Super 7 Series” will also include the Whitney Young NY Urban League Classic (Sept. 19) Morgan State vs. Winston Salem State, (Sept. 26) Prince George (MD) Classic - Shaw University vs. Bowie State, (Oct. 3) Indianapolis, IN - Circle City Classic - Tuskegee vs. Alabama A&M, (Oct. 31) Birmingham, AL - Magic City Classic – Alabama St. vs. Alabama A&M, (Nov. 21) Orlando, FL - Florida Classic – Bethune Cookman University vs. Florida A&M, and (Nov. 28) New Orleans, LA-Bayou Classic – Grambling State vs. Southern University.

HSRN will also feature a matchup with FCS (D-IAA) and BCS (D-IA) when Howard University travels to Rutgers University (Sept. 12).

Conference rival match-ups include N.C. A&T at Morgan State (Oct. 10), Tuskegee University at Albany State (Oct. 24), and Norfolk State at Delaware State (Nov. 14).  HSRN will also feature the CIAA Championship in Durham, NC (Nov. 7) and will close out the football schedule at the SWAC Championship in Birmingham, AL (Dec. 12).

Founded in 2006, HSRN was created to provide a voice for the HBCU community. For over 100 years HBCU’s have participated in collegiate athletics with little to no media coverage.  Stars like Walter Payton, Althea Gibson, Doug Williams, Charles Oakley and Michael Strahan are just a few of the many superstars who were HBCU athletes. There are approximately 7 million fans of HBCU sports who were media orphans in search of a home. HSRN is the only national radio network dedicated to HBCU sports.  Our goal is to fuse the greats of the past with the stars of today to showcase the significance of this unique and underserved sports community.
