Stan Bradley, Assistant Director of Athletics for External Affairs/Sports Information Director, is pleased to announce the hiring of Maggie Hayon as Sports Information Assistant for the 2009-10 academic year. Hayon, a native of Howards Grove, Wis., is a May 2008 graduate from Marquette University with a B.A. in Public Relations and a minor in Marketing. While at UMES, she will be developing publications and promotional materials while looking to further enhance the Hawks' role in the community. Additionally, she will increase the Hawk fan base by using social-media tools. During her four years at MU, Hayon worked in the Golden Eagles Athletic Department as an administrative student assistant and game-day staff. Her duties involved welcoming alumni, potential students/families, professionals, recruits, visiting teams and the general public to the Al McGuire Center, organizing events held at the Al McGuire Center, Bradley Center and Valley Fields and assisting with Blue and Gold Fund fundraising events among other tasks. As a student at Marquette, she interned two summers with the Milwaukee Brewers Baseball Club in both the Community/Alumni Relations and Media Relations Departments. She organized and fulfilled approximately 1,000 donation requests per month, executed player/fan visits and assisted with the 1982 25th Anniversary Team Reunion, in addition to compiling and distributing daily news clips, stat packs and game notes, responding to fan mail and email, contacting and following up with local media for interviews and responding to inquiries about upcoming home-stands, road trips and media guides. She continues to spend time with the organization by volunteering with Brewers Charities, Inc., which supports activities and programs targeted at youth recreation, scholarship and education throughout Milwaukee and Wisconsin. Immediately following graduation, Hayon moved cross country to Eugene, Ore. to work for Minor League Baseball's Eugene Emeralds (Short Season A-San Diego Padres). During her time with the Ems, she designed and produced game-day notes and programs, handled daily fan interactions, accompanied, players to community appearances, executed on-field promotions and contests, and wrote and produced player/coach trading cards. "I am thrilled about Maggie joining our staff at UMES," said Bradley. "Her resume speaks for itself and she will be an incredible asset to our athletic department and sports information department. Her role in expanding our presence in the community will be invaluable and I look forward to working with her." |
