Harry "Trae" Stinson III 05/26/09

Tucker, GA. – The men of Morehouse College captured the SIAC All-Sports Award for the 2008-09 seasons. This award is Morehouse’s second consecutive SIAC Commissioner’s All-Sports Award and third in the last five years.

Morehouse College just pulled away from Benedict to finish in first with 44 points.  Morehouse took home conference titles in golf, tennis and track & field and second in cross country and football, en route to their championship.  Morehouse wins their second outright title in the last five years.  They tied with Albany State in 2005-06.  Benedict finished in second place with 29 points after finishing first in cross country, second in golf, and third in baseball, tennis and track & field. Albany State finished in third place with 18 points largely in part to their second place finishes in baseball and track & field.  Fort Valley State University (11), Stillman College (10), Tuskegee University (10), LeMoyne-Owen College (10), Lane College (7), Paine College (4), and Kentucky State University (4) rounded out the scoring.

A scoring system of 10 points for 1st place, 7 points for 2nd place and 4 points for 3rd place is used to determine the All-Sports Standings for the SIAC 12-member institutions.  Football is determined by their finish in the regular season.  The Men’s & Women’s Basketball tournament is not double elimination and does not offer a consolation game.

Morehouse received their award at the SIAC General Assembly meetings held in Atlanta, GA May 20-22.  Commissioner, Gregory Moore, Esq., presented the Athletic Department the award.  The prestigious Commissioner’s All Sports Trophy is presented to the men’s and women’s athletic department who have excelled athletically within the conference by winning or placing the most conference titles throughout the year.
