NCAA-Bound SC State Tennis Teams Recognized by City Council‏

ORANGEBURG
, SC – The South Carolina State men and women’s tennis teams, which are scheduled to open play in the prestigious NCAA Tennis Championships this weekend (May 9-11) at UNC-Chapel Hill, and head coach Hardeep Judge were recognized by Mayor Paul Miller and the Orangeburg City Council Tuesday prior to the Council’s 7 p.m. business meeting at City Hall.

            Mayor Miller presented the SC State teams, Coach Judge and Bulldog athletics director Charlene Johnson with a proclamation, which detailed the teams’ achievements and honors for the 2007-08 season and proclaimed May 6, 2008 as “SC State Men and Women’s Tennis Teams Day.”

            “Orangeburg is happy to recognize your achievements,” the mayor said. “You are outstanding ambassadors for the City of Orangeburg and SC State University. We wish you well and success as you travel to Chapel Hill, NC.”

            The SC State women won their fourth straight Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference title this season and are in the NCAA Tennis Championship for a fourth consecutive year, while the men are making their fourth appearance in five years.

            The Lady Bulldogs open play Friday against the UNC women at 10 a.m. at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center on the UNC campus. The SC State men swing into action Saturday against UNC at 10 a.m.
