JACKSON, Miss. - Fans who attend the Jackson State University vs. the University
of Southern Mississippi football game on August 31 in Hattiesburg will receive
an added treat-they will be entertained by the sounds of JSU's dynamic
200-member "Sonic Boom of the South" marching band, the high stepping Prancing
J-Settes, Tiger mascot Wavee Dave and the beloved Baby Tigers.

"There has been some talk among our fans about the band not attending the game,"
said JSU Athletics Director Roy Culberson. "Our fans can rest assured, the band,
J-Settes, Wavee Dave and the Baby Tigers will perform."

The "Sonic Boom" is under the direction of Dr. Lewis Liddell. Associate Band
Director is Michael McGruder. Assistant Band Directors are David Ware, Joe Ringo
and Crystal Britton.

The "Sonic Boom" is one of the best known college or university marching bands
in the country, and was voted Mississippi's favorite college band in an October
1998 Clarion-Ledger newspaper readers poll.

The band is in demand for appearances and performances. On January of this year,
the band thrilled fans in Dallas when they performed for the National Basketball
Association Dallas Mavericks' first annual Black College Day. The band has also
performed during halftime for several National Football League teams including:
the Atlanta Falcons, Cincinnati Bengals, Detroit Lions, Houston Oilers, New
Orleans Saints,

New York Jets, Philadelphia Eagles and Indianapolis Colts. Additionally, the
band has been featured during a "World's Fair," a television special for
Motown's 30th Anniversary; the NBA All-Star Weekend in 1991; and is a favored
entry in parades across Mississippi and in other states.

Tickets for the JSU vs. USM football game on August 31, 2002 are still available

the ticket office located at the Lee E. Williams Athletics and Assembly Center.
