SMITH
NAMED TO THE ALL-SWAC TEAM Grambling, LA – Freshman Kendall Smith, of the Southern University Lady Jaguars soccer team, was named to the 2005 soccer All-Southwestern Athletic Conference first-team. The announcement came during the banquet which precedes the post season tournament. Smith has participated in all 13 games on the year and has scored three goals, and one assist for a total of seven points. The West Chapel, Florida native has taken six shots with four of them on goal. Smith began the season at the forward position but was moved to the defender midway during the season. Since then she has helped the goalies collect a total of 90 saves for the year. “Kendall is very deserving of the award,” said interim head coach John Knighten. “She has played more than one position for us and she doesn’t mind she wants to help to team in anyway.” The Lady Jaguars will begin their quest for the SWAC soccer tournament championship and the first ever bid for the conference to participate in the NCAA soccer tournament. Their first round opponent will be Jackson State University. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m. with all games, during the tournament, being held at the Eddie G. Robinson football field on the Grambling State University campus. -SU- |
