Jackson, MS---The Lady Tigers of Jackson State played host to the Devilettes of Mississippi Valley State in a fight for positioning in the upcoming Southwestern Athletic Conference soccer tournament. Entering the game a solid number two seed in the SWAC’s Eastern Division the Devilettes saw their hold slip a notch taking a 3-1 loss to the Lady Tigers.

The anticipation going into the game was extremely
high; as two of the SWAC’s better teams took the field
in a battle of wills looking for a chance to prove
just who the best was. When the dust settled and the
ball stopped rolling it came down to who wanted it the
most and JSU emerged victorious.

The Devilettes only score came late in the game with a
goal from freshman forward Pella Hand (70:00).

Devilettes goalie Maria Del Guercio recorded eight
saves as she faced 14 shots.

Jackson State took the lead early in the game and
never looked back. Christine Walker scored two
consecutive goals for the Lady Tigers at the 14th and
18th minute marks of the first half. The final goal
for the Lady Tigers came late in the first half when
Germaine Tuckett found a weak point in the Devilettes
defense (37:00).

Lady Tigers goalie Brittney Berry recorded seven saves
as she faced ten shots.

The Devilettes (8-6-1) will be in action again October
30th when they travel to Starkville, MS to take on the
Lady Bulldogs of Mississippi State, before heading to
Grambling, LA to participate in the 2005 SWAC Soccer
Championship Tournament next week.
