Itta Bena, MS--- The Mississippi Valley State
University Devilettes soccer team continued recent
woes as they dropped another close game this time 2-1
to the Cowgirls of McNeese State University in only
their second home game of the year.

Despite giving up two goals, one in each half, the
Devilettes played solid defense throughout only
allowing seven shots on goal, goalkeeper Maria Del
Guercio recorded five saves.

The Devilettes lone goal came courtesy of freshman
defender Ashley Bailey’s long kick just over the head
of Cowgirls back up goalkeeper Shelby Money in the
games 80th minute.

McNeese freshman forward, Ja’Nae Powell provided all
of the offense the Cowgirls would need scoring both of
their goals. The first set up by a cross pass from
Sara Overfelt for the assist, the later on a breakaway
that left her one on one with Guercio.

The Devilettes (1-4) will return to action Wednesday
September 21st when they travel to Baton Rouge, LA to
face the Lady Jaguars of Southern University in their
first contest against a Southwestern Athletic
Conference school.
