DEVILETTES SCORE SHUTOUT OVER LADY STATESMEN

Itta Bena, MS---The Mississippi Valley State
Devilettes soccer team recorded their third straight
shutout victory with a 5-0 win over the Lady Statesmen of Delta State today in Cleveland, MS. Led by sophomore forward Brooke Falke, the Devilettes put the Lady Statesmen away early as they breezed through to an easy victory.

Falke got the Devilettes on the scoreboard early,
scoring the first of her two goals less than two
minutes into the game courtesy of a pass from right
wing Jackie Hogan. One and a half minutes later Falke
would once again strike pay dirt on an identical play
this time on a pass from Sonia Curvelo on the left
wing.

After taking a 2-0 lead into the break, Valley opened
the second half in the same fashion as they started
the game when Meghan Eddy scored unassisted two
minutes into the half. Pella Hand added a goal at the
54:52 mark, while Curvelo finished off the scoring at
60:04.

For the Lady Statesmen, Amy Gaines and Ney Ney Foster
both recorded a shot on goal. Keeper, Bonnie Keene
had seven saves as the Devillettes fired off 15 shots.

Devillettes keeper Maria Del Guercio, Southwestern
Athletic Conference Goal Keeper of the Week recorded
two saves of Delta States four shots.

The Devilettes (5-4) will return to action Friday,
October 7th when they host the Lady Lions of the
University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
